From a distance, this small island just to the south of Kos looks just like a volcanic cone jutting out of the sea. And, indeed, that is more or less exactly what it is. Here it is on Google Maps. Frewin Poffley's guide, whilst enthusing about the "small island" atmosphere, gives Nissiros a round zero for nudism. However Barefooters who visited the island in May sent the Captain a very promising report. Take the road east out of Pali past the old spa and continue until the dirt road ends with a car park. Continue on the trail for a further 15 minutes or so around the headland and you will arrive at the beach. The beach is coarse dark sand and small pebbles backed by dunes. Although some were clothed when our Barefooters arrived they soon stripped off when they saw they were naked.

I had to cancel and postpone my trip a couple of times, but a year ago I finally went there and indeed found a good bunch of local naturists. There is a couple of groups in Quito, with weekly gatherings at a pool with sauna and less frequent outings to thermal pools outside the city. I had been in touch with one of the local naturist groups — Nudismo Ecuador — for a while, so when my plans solidified, I made sure to coordinate to meet up with them. So a dozen of us went to the thermal pools of Papallacta east of Quito.
Chios is a naturist paradise, if one is prepared to put a bit of effort into the holiday. The island is littered with small, secluded beaches, perfect for people who prefer nature to crowded "developed" places. But there is also a high "textile-factor" all around the island, and not even topless sunbathing on the most popular beaches, as there are almost no visitors except Greeks. Chios as a tourist-island is not over-exploited, mostly due to runway! Many visitors come to like this "25 year set-back" in Greek touristic history. The island has very few tourists, only 7 charter planes arrive each week, limited by the size of the airport. This means that the locals are not fed-up with tourists, there is no jet-set-party-all-night crowd, and everything runs at a wonderfully slow pace. You should rent a car or motorbike, as there is a lot to see and do around the island but the Captain advises you to take great care if you do rent a motorbike.
We expect you to undress when you arrive and be naked until you are ready to return to the outside world. If you come as a couple and your partner is new to naturism, he or she may wear a towel in the beginning. Nudity is important and the full benefit of naturism will be reduced significantly, but we do accept that joining the experience together as a couple is much more valuable for both of you.
